MISSION

At Columbia Montessori School, we pledge to conduct ourselves professionally and personally in ways that will reflect our respect for each other and for the children we serve. We will do whatever is within our talents and capacity to protect the rights of each child to have the freedom and opportunity to develop his or her full potential.

Columbia Montessori School admits children without regard to race, color, religious or national origin.

PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of Columbia Montessori School is based on the traditional Montessori program, which was designed to help young children to develop themselves into independent individuals. We believe that children from a very young age are ready and capable of learning vast amounts of knowledge. Each classroom is a prepared environment and is equipped with Montessori materials appropriate for ages two through first grade.

Our Montessori philosophy emphasizes:

  • Individualized Learning : Each child is unique and learns at their own pace.  Our curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of every student, encouraging self-directed learning.
  • Hands-On Experience: Children engage with specially designed Montessori materials that promote exploration and discovery.
  • Development of Life Skills: We focus on holistic development, nurturing not only academic skills but also social, emotional, and practical life skills.
  • Environment of Respect and Peace: Our classrooms are designed to cultivate a sense of respect, independence and community among students.

The materials are classified into several different categories:

Practical Life (daily living), Sensorial exercises, Language, Cultural Studies, Math and Sciences. Through the use of these materials, children gain an independence and knowledge which will give them a foundation for success in all their school years.
