Columbia Montessori School
AMS-inspired Montessori education serving children from 24 months through Lower Elementary.
My work with children, families, and community members has inspired a teaching journey that began long before I had heard the term "Montessori." My journey started with teaching college graduates, high school students, and elementary school children, but I often felt that I was part of an educational landscape that was incomplete. As a reflective educator, I have always believed that true education and discipline are inside-out work — something traditional teaching methods often fail to fully address.
My 20 years of classroom experience as a certified Montessori educator have given me clarity that transformation is profound when the approach is right. The relevance of the foundational years cannot be overemphasized. In the words of Dr. Maria Montessori, "The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six."
The Montessori environment nurtures the whole child - physical, social, emotional, and cognitive - while fostering independence, concentration, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. Through careful observation, we strive to recognize and meet the individual needs of each child while preparing an environment where learning unfolds naturally and without interruption. We are mindful not to overstimulate the child. As Dr. Maria Montessori beautifully stated, "The first essential for the child's development is concentration."
At CMS, our experienced faculty of trained Montessori educators has been serving children and families in this community since 1970 at this very location. Many of our teachers bring decades of Montessori experience and dedication into the classroom each day. Together, we strive to offer families a genuine and meaningful learning experience during the child's most formative years. We look forward to working together with you in serving your child. Thank you for visiting us.

Our Vision at CMS
Welcome to Columbia Montessori School
Located on quiet Marble Faun Lane, CMS offers children a peaceful and secure environment away from the noise and crowds, while still being conveniently close to Columbia's main amenities. Along with our own playground, the school is surrounded by beautiful Columbia Association parks, playgrounds, green spaces, and a nearby swimming pool used during the summer - making our location a unique extension of the Montessori environment itself.
