Emergency Plans
MULTI-HARZARD SAFETY PROGRAM
In the event of an emergency we have found it necessary to implement two plans of action. We will monitor any situation in the region and take our cues from the Howard County School System and from Federal, State and Local officials. Please be aware of these two plans:
Plan I
- Should an emergency occur that warrants an early dismissal, parents will be notified immediately. We ask that each family have a plan of action for picking up their child from school. Be sure to let the office know of any additional names that you would like to add to your emergency card. This should also include family friends who attend our school. If you work in the D.C. or Baltimore area be sure you have someone in the area who can pick up your child in the event you can not leave the city.
- If an evacuation is necessary we have made arrangements with the Faulkner Ridge Center to seek shelter in their building. This is the building directly across the parking lot. Parents will be notified immediately. Again, please be sure your emergency card is up to date.
Plan II
Should the “Homeland Security” threat condition level be increased to “severe” (red) we will take action if necessary based on the Howard County’s Emergency Operation Center and Howard County Public Schools. If instructed by the Howard Public Schools to maintain a “lockdown” status and “shelter in place” because of hazardous conditions, parents are encouraged to leave their children in school.
- Do not drive to the school unless directed to do so.
- If telephones are operating we will notify parents
- Tune to news media for emergency instructions

Please be assured that protective actions are in place to keep your children safe until you are able to pick them up. We have provisions to “shelter in place” for three days. If your child has food allergies, please send in extra food for us to keep for him/her. Please also send extra medication for 2 days if your child is on a regular medication schedule. Be sure to call the office to arrange for these special requests.
Communication on all updates and revisions will be sent home as needed.
